Fest offers blueberries, basketball, more

South Haven is turning 150 this year, and one way to celebrate the city is to visit its 56th annual Blueberry Festival, set for Aug. 8–11.

The South Haven area is one of the most prolific producers of blueberries in the nation, and the festival highlights this fact by offering a Blueberry Pie and Ice Cream Social, blueberry pancake breakfasts, a blueberry-pie-eating competition, and a market selling fresh blueberries, blueberry pies, blueberry preserves and blueberry plants.

The festival also features a basketball tournament, a 5K run/walk, a youth pageant, nightly entertainment and a craft fair.

The annual Blueberry Festival began in 1963 and is one of the country’s longest continuously held festivals. For a full schedule of each day’s events, visit blueberryfestival.com/schedule.html.
