The Hate U Give author to speak

Angie Thomas, author of the bestselling young-adult novel The Hate U Give, will speak at 7 p.m. April 17 at Miller Auditorium as part of the Kalamazoo Public Library’s Reading Together series.

em>The Hate U Give follows an African-American girl named Starr Carter, who, at 16, witnesses the killing of her childhood best friend at the hands of a police officer. Carter exists in two very different worlds, living in a poor neighborhood of a fictional town but attending a prep school in an upper-class part of the town. Thomas will speak about the development of her book “and in so doing, speak to the heart of race, activism and social change in America today,” according to event organizers.

The talk will be followed by a book signing by Thomas, and copies of her book will be for sale. Tickets are free, but it is recommended that those interested in attending RSVP in advance. To RSVP or for more information, visit readingtogether.us.
