SkeleTour and more fun returns to downtown Kalamazoo

Here’s a fun reason to get outside and take a walk — SkeleTour hits the sidewalks of downtown Kalamazoo again this October. And with it, comes a whole host of related fun.

During the month-long SkeleTour, downtown streets will be adorned with 52 skeletons representing local businesses. You can enjoy the creativity and genius of the creators of the skeletons, which run the gamut from creepy and scary to funny and silly. And don’t forget to look up: Last year there were skeletons hanging onto the sides of buildings.

Other activities planned include:

  • a Skelfie Scavenger Hunt;
  • the SkeleTour Puzzle Trip, a family-friendly, at-your-own-pace downtown puzzle extravaganza with 31 different puzzles and the MEGA puzzle grid. Downtown Kalamazoo social media will give daily hints on where to find mega puzzle grid clues.
  • An Oct. 2 performance by The Skeletones on the Kalamazoo Mall from 5-8 p.m.
  • Live performances on Bates Alley on Oct. 7 featuring WMU student jazz band, Grayson Nye Quartet, and Oct. 14 featuring local high schoolers performing tangos, movie music and Celtic tunes.
  • Family Movie night at 3 p.m. Oct. 17 at the Arcadia Creek Festival Place. Enjoy the Halloween favorite, Hotel Transylvania, outdoors at the Arcadia Creek Festival Place. Bring your own chairs, blankets, and snacks. Registration is required.
  • Pumpkin Carving Demonstration from 2-5 p.m. Oct. 17 with John Angevine
  • Scary Hair appointments with the Radisson’s Blush Salon + Spa. By appointment only, a limited number of kids can get the scariest, silliest hairstyles imaginable. These Scary Hair appointments will be free of charge on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 5 – 8pm. By appointment only, registration required.
  • "A Walking Tour of Downtown Kalamazoo Breweries" every weekend in October with West Michigan Beer Tours
  • Spooky Bus Tour, Oct. 24, featuring a brewery with a haunt, one of Kalamazoo's best haunted attractions and great fall season beers. Costumes are encouraged and prizes will be awarded to the favorites. Registration required.
