Book Discussion: From Dust to Stardust

April 17 at 2:00 pm

by Kathleen Rooney

Doreen O’Dare, née Eileen Sullivan, travels from Chicago to Hollywood at fourteen years old with her fairy-faithful, storytelling Irish grandmother and takes the silent picture era by storm. With her youthful looks and high-spirited nature, Doreen becomes the iconic flapper of the Jazz Age and embarks on a journey that will take her through success, tragedy, to eventually the construction of a 2,000 pound fairy castle that will sit on display at the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry for several decades. As an older woman, Doreen gets the opportunity to tell her remarkable story through the lens of the fairy castle and buoy the spirit of the nation during the Great Depression using a little bit of star power and magic.
